Brods keen to sign off with sixth win in row
One-time relegation candidates Old Brodleians will hope to complete a tremendous finish to the season with success at home to Yarnbury tomorrow (3.0). A sixth win in a row, against opponents who have lost four of their last five, could move them into the top half of the table.
Selby and Hullensians have just one point more than the ninth-placed Woodhead men.
The Horsforth outfit started the season well following promotion, including a home victory over Brods on the opening day of the season.
They have lost their way a little recently and were beaten at home last week by resurgent North Ribblesdale club.
A big crowd is expected with more than 150 attending a pre match lunch.
The seconds go to Yarnbury looking to extend their winning run to 16 while the Beavers entertain Stocksbridge twos in their penultimate game of the season.
The first kept up the good work last week by sealing hosts Wath Upon Dearne’s relegation fate, with a 22-17 victory in South Yorkshire.
Wath opened strongly with a strong breeze at their backs and surged into a 17-0 lead.
They were 7-0 up after 10 minutes, strong forward play and a driving maul from a lineout enabling burly second row Simon Lines to touch down. Adam West converted.
The lead was quickly extended when the bulky Wath pack drove again. This time wily and experienced ex-Halifax scrum half Joe Bartlett finished from two metres out.
The home side’s confidence was growing and after good handling Ashley Rothery beat several attempted tackles to cross on the left after 25 minutes.
