Brighouse looking to keep fine run going

-

Brighouse Town player-boss Paul Quinn will be selecting from strength as his side travel to take on Prescot Cablers tomorrow (3pm). Quinn has been boosted after guiding his side to a five match unbeaten run in Evo-Stik NPL Division One following a 0-0 home draw with Warrington last weekend and a 4-1 success at New Mills on Monday night - a result which confirmed the Derbyshire club’s relegation.

James Hurtley set them on their way when he picked up on a loose ball in the box to fire home just before the half hour.

Hurtley then doubled his and Town’s advantage by heading home an Isaac Baldwin corner to open up a 2-0 halftime lead.

New Mills reduced the deficit just ahead of the hour through Melford Knight. However, Town restored their two goal cushion minutes later when Tom Matthews netted.

Brighouse were excellent value for their lead and completed the scoring four minutes from time when Ben Thornton slotted home.

“I told the lads they would be all pumped up as they needed the three points to help them in their bid to stay up and they did come at us for over 20 minutes,”said Quinn, who was sent from the dugout after remarks made to the referee.

“We dug in and saw off the pressure, with Jacob Giles once more in superb form, and then after that I thought we were ruthless and could have won by a much larger margin.

“It was a young side with the inclusion of Matt Stor, Will Tolley, Isaac Baldwin and on the bench Tim Wallace and Callum Charlton, and it bodes well for the future.”

Town had once more gone to a midweek away game without Ernest Boafo and Sam Hewitt through work, and were also without central defender Tyrone Gay and Adam Field. Brighouse Town’s pacy winger Callum Charlton, in his second spell at the club after moving back from Eccleshill Utd last close season, is having trials with Huddersfield Town’s U-21 side.
