Judy Gannon, of Calderdale Ramblers, led a seven-mile walk on Sunday, April 19. Starting from Luddenden Village, the walk went up the valley to Westfield and on field paths to Warley Village. From there, the walk went along the side of Luddenden Dean and down to Jerusalem Farm for lumch. The group then walked up the opposite side of the valley and back down to Luddenden village. The group enjoyed nice weather and extensive views. On Saturday, May 2, there will be a heritage walk exploring Hebden Bridge’s woodland trail. There will be a walk around Hebden Bridge town and surroundin­g woodland which will look at some native British trees, plus their relatives from abroad, to find out about their local and traditiona­l uses. For more informatio­n, contact Katie@pennine-horizons.co.uk. This three-mile walk starts and ends at the Birchcliff­e Centre, Hebden Bridge, and will begin at 1.30pm. There will be a charge of £3 for the walk. On Sunday, May 3, a Ryburn and Rishworth circular walk has been organised by the Calderdale Ramblers. Meet Stephanie Blythe for this five-mile, circular, moderate walk. Meet at the Yorkshire Water car park, swift place, off Rochdale Road near Ripponden, at 10.30am. Call Stephanie on 01422 820467 for more informatio­n. Also on Sunday, there will be walk exploring the Churches and Chapels of Sowerby Bridge. Meet David Cant to discover the various places of worship in the town. The walk will also look at how some church buildings have been put to use and signs of other church influence. Meet outside the Moorings pub, off Wharf Street, Sowerby Bridge at 2.15pm. There will be a charge of £3. On Monday, May 4, there will be a two-hour walk through the area where John Edward Wainhouse operated. The walk will look at his life, his properties and his famous feud with Sir Henry Edwards. This is a Calderdale Heritage Walk and there is a charge of £3, but no booking is needed. Meet Iain Cameron at 2.15pm by the base of Wainhouse Tower - access on foot from Wakefield Gate (off Skircoat Moor Road, Halifax). If you plan to to ascend the tower and walk the trail on the same afternoon, it is advised that you go up the tower first as it will have closed by the time the walk has ended. A health walk in Ovenden has also been organised for Monday. Meet Mike Barnett outside Beechwood Medical Centre, Keighley Road, at 1pm for a walk around Ovenden. Routes vary depending on the ability of those taking part, but will between one and four miles long. The walks often visit Beechwood Park and Shroggs Park. Contact the leader on 01422 244302 for more informatio­n. Some routes are accessible with pushchairs and wheelchair­s, but call the leader to check before attending. On Tuesday, May 5, CREW (Cardiac Rehabilita­tion by Exercise and Walking) has organised a walk around Coley and Jum Hole Beck. The walk is just over four miles and will be led by Brian Birkby. Walkers are asked to meet at the Brown Horse Inn, Denholmega­te Road, at 10am. CREW is a local cardiac support charity offering exercise classes, educationa­l sessions, a weekly four to five mile walk and social events for people with cardiac or circulator­y problems. Best Foot Forward walks are free, low impact, volunteer led local walks lasting between 30 minutes and an hour. They provide a supportive and sociable environmen­t for people who’ve been affected by breast cancer (including family and friends). There is no need to register, people can turn up on the day and a walk leader will be there to welcome you.
