Loyal staff help firm thrive
Halifax-based Marshalls has once again celebrated the commitment and hard work of employees who have been with the company for 25 years, at a presentation which took place at Oulton Hall, Leeds. The 31 employees, seven of whom are from the local area, have accumulated 775 years of service between them and were presented with a gold watch and certificate by chief executive Martyn Coffey.
Marshalls was founded in the late 1800s by Solomon Marshall who registered S. Marshalls & Sons Ltd in 1904 having seen that a living could be made from the quarrying business after working as a foreman at Pond Quarry, Brighouse.
Solomon acquired his first land in 1910 at Southowram, a site which is still in use today as the company’s manufacturing facility at West Lane and the last century has seen the company grow from strength to strength.
Today Marshalls maintains a strong presence in West Yorkshire, including its head office in Elland, as well as having sites across England, Scotland and Wales.
David Jessop, operations manager of the Marshalls Register, based at the company’s head office, said: “I’ve seen a lot of changes during my time and the company has really grown. The people I work with are phenomenal and there’s a certain Marshalls’ way of doing things the right way.
“Marshalls recognises and respects the loyalty of its workforce, which makes it a great place to work.”
