Over the weekend of June 5-7, Southgate Methodist Church is celebrating its centenary. On the Friday evening invited guests are invited to a preview evening at 7.30pm. On Saturday the church buildings will be open from 10am until 4pm when there will be on display photographs and baptismal and wedding registers for the churches making up the present church. Organisations which use the premises will be mounting displays in the lower hall and there will be a film show of photographs. In the church itself there will be displays by church organisations and flower displays including a rainbow of flowers over the choir stalls. Refreshments (tea coffee and cake) will be available. On Sunday morning church members led by the Steadfast Association will process from Central Hall to the church at 10am when worship at 10.30am will be conducted by Chairman of the West Yorkshire District of the Methodist Church, the Reverend Roger Walton. Following the service a hundred balloons will be released following which coffee will be served followed by a lunch.
A service of celebration in the evening will be conducted by the Reverend Colin Sherwood. David Norcliffe gave a talk on ‘West Wadsworth 13502000’, at the Ryburn Valley History Society.
