Job losses at building firm Southdale
A Halifax building firm specialising in affordable homes has gone into administration with the loss of 87 jobs.
Southdale Limited operated from a hub in Halifax and other parts of Yorkshire, the North West and North East working on homes and “technically demanding public buildings”.
The company operated throughout the North of UK, with regional hubs including Darlington and Warrington,
Now 128 workers are being transferred to building firm Kier Living who will take over some Southdale contracts.
Peter Holder, Lee Causer and Anne O’Keefe of AlixPartners Services UK were appointed as joint administrators at Southdale Homes on April 29.
At the start of April Southdale announced it would support its Yorkshire supply chain and create jobs and apprenticeships, after winning £10.5 million of new contracts.
The company had secured the work, in South and West Yorkshire, with more than 100 homes being built in Bradford and Sheffield.
Doubts now surround many major housing developments with work being stopped.
