Club golf day raises £15k for NSPCC

- By Tom Scargill

A golf day held at West End Golf Club in Halifax has generated a big wedge of cash by raising £15,500 for the NSPCC.

The glorious sunshine stirred the spirits of the teams some of whom were playing in the competition for the thirteenth year.

The winning team was Yorkshire Bank.

Helen Verity, NSPCC community fundraising manager, said: “I would like to thank everyone involved in the tournament for their ongoing support of the NSPCC – Wilby Limited, the volunteers, the club, all the teams who participated, the sponsors, and all the generous companies who helped support the event, we really couldn’t do it without you.

“Everyone enjoyed the day, and I’m sure the sunshine helped the golfers enjoy the on course refreshments!”

Money raised from the golf tournament will support services like the charity’s Schools Service in Calderdale, helping to reach a generation of children in the area.

The Schools Service aims to give primary school children the awareness they need to recognise abuse, and to seek help sooner if they need it.

And the service now needs volunteers in Calderdale to help protect and educate local children.

Assemblies and workshops have already been delivered in 27 schools in Calderdale and talked to over 1,746 children, but the charity’s aim is to visit every child in the UK twice in their primary school years.

In order to continue its work, the service needs to recruit an additional 210 active volunteers nationally by September 2015.

If you are interested in volunteering please get in touch to find out more about the Schools Service team.

The golf tournament was sponsored by Wilby Limited and each of the 40 teams was greeted with champagne, food and dri nks on the course supported by Taylors Butchers, BM Howarth, Huddersfield ASDA, and Le Sous Le Nez.
