The Magna Via over Beacon Hill, Halifax, was the only route east from the town until the 18th century, when a new road had to be built to carry wheeled vehicles. In 1986 a half-mile stretch in Dark Lane, Southowram, was damaged by a bulldozer; thus the need for repairs.

Harry’s sons, Eddie and Reggie, ran it until their retirement in 1967 and although the shop has since changed hands it has retained the Greenwood name.
