Your Say Does anyone know my old friends?

-

My name is Mike Cartwright and I live in Louth near Grimsby in Lincolnshire. Way back in the late 1950s and early 60s my cousin Andrew and I used to spend a week or so of our summer holidays in Hull with the Martin family...Harry and Doris, who we called aunty and uncle, and their son Peter. Harry and Doris were longstanding friends of my family and were originally from Grimsby. They lived in Birklands Drive near East Park in Hull and Andrew and I spent some very happy times at their home. Peter became a very good friend. He eventually moved to Halifax where he lived with his second wife Pam. He was a graduate of Hull University and was a teacher. As often happens, we lost touch with him as we grew older and buried ourselves in our own lives, families and careers. Last week, I was talking to a friend and he told me that he grew up in Hull and that his daughter now lives in Birklands Drive. It was the start of a week-long trip down memory lane but of course there are now more questions than answers... and Peter Martin holds the key to many of them. I don’t know if Peter and Pam are still living in the Halifax area ... or even if they’re still alive but if they are I would very much like to re-establish contact and I’m hoping you can help. It seemed to be flourishing. Hundreds of years to grow, and a few minutes to destroy. How sad. to give them a hot meal. An internal mapping exercise has identified your community as one which could make more use of our funding. It could be a family which is experiencing abuse, neglect, domestic violence, homelessness or is affected by drug and alcohol dependency – and where the situation has become acute. With a further £12bn of welfare cuts expected in the forthcoming Budget, this help may be needed more than ever. Thanks to our friends, supporters and many of your readers, our MPs now realise that people from all parts of the UK, from every walk of life, want them to do more to tackle one of the greatest issues of our age. We’d like to thank everyone who joined us. By keeping the pressure on Parliament, and being part of The Climate Coalition, you’ve helped strengthen the case for investment in renewable energy and a low-carbon economy in which nature and people everywhere can flourish. In the run-up to international climate talks in Paris later this year, there’s still time for anyone who couldn’t join us to make their voice heard.
