Applicatio­ns must be received by noon on Friday, July 24 and must meet one of the following priorities: Priority one - Activities or projects which bring people together from different age groups, background­s, neighbourh­ood’s and make a difference to the ward. Priority two - Activities or projects which help develop people’s skills and experience. Priority three - Activities or projects that improve the culture, environmen­t and safety within the ward. From now until September 25 St Mary’s Parish Church is open every Friday from 11 am to 1pm. The grade one listed building dates back to c1180. The beautiful east window erected between 1450 and 1490 depicts the life of the blessed by deal box pews in the 18th century but one pew dated 1690 remains. Members of Elland Ladies Probus Club met for coffee in the Langdale Room at Southgate Methodist Church following which they listened to Keith Bottom speak about Lola Montez Part 2. Lynn Lord made a welcome return to the latest meetings of the Chit Chat Club at All Saints’ Church. This time reading poems by Pam Ayres which she supplement­ed with highly amusing reminiscen­ces. Members, as always, added stories of their own and there was a lot of laughter, particular­ly over Flit guns - so much so that at least one member was reduced to tears. Despite having used a fair amount of energy laughing, there was still enough left to play the ever popular beach ball game and complete a quiz. On Friday, July 10 St Mary’s Parish Church is holding a Festival of flowers and hanging baskets from 11am to 1pm. The event continues on Saturday from 10am to 4pm and on Sunday from 2pm to 4 pm. Entrance is by donation and refreshmen­ts will be available. Cynthia Bellew welcomed members to a meeting of the Tuesday Over Sixties Club at Elland Working Men’s Club and also organised a raffle. Friends of Crow Wood Park

Friends of Crow Wood Park held a second coffee morning in the pavilion when members served coffee and home-made cakes. A large chocolate cake made by Gwen a member of the group, was won by Mrs Sheila Wade. One visitor had travelled from Brighouse to renew childhood memories of the park and several visitors have mentioned fond memories of playing in the park and paddling pool half a century ago. A third coffee morning will be held on July 22. Why not come and share your memories. The friends would be pleased to see any photos which you could bring as they are trying to compile a history.
