-

Two of Old Brodleians’ young stars, Phil Town and Dan Wood, have been selected to represent the Yorkshire Terriers on a 22-day tour to Australia and Hong Kong.

They will depart on Saturday and will take in Brisbane, Melbourne and Hong Kong.

The under-20s invitational tour squad will have 34 players and 15 support staff, playing five matches against highgrade opposition.

Town and Wood have come through the youth ranks at Woodhead and are now an integral part of the first team.

Club chairman Richard Turner said: “The quality of rugby they will play can only help them to develop them as rugby players.”

Brods have some new faces as they start their preparations for what promises to be an exciting Yorkshire One campaign packed with derby games.

Two of last season’s signings enjoyed it so much that they have each brought along a new recruit.

Fly-half Tom Andrews has brought along his brother Jack to play in the back row or at hooker.

Bob Sykes, who produced some excellent performances in the lineout last term, has brought along his friend Harry Whitfield, who looks set to be a valued member of the first team squad.

Former player of the season Lee Scrimshaw in back in training after illness.

Last season’s star player, Aussie lock Stirling Ross, looks unlikely to be returning . However, a South Africa front rower has arrived in Hipperholme.

The girls section, the Brodettes, start pre-season training on Saturday. The club’s AGM is on Wednesday (6.30).

The Brods will enjoy their inaugural President’s Charity Ball at The Casa on Elland wood bottom tonight (Friday).

The club is looking to raise funds for their charity partner for the last two years, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance .

Next Wednesday the club will be holdings its AGM (6.30)

After the great success of the Brodstock pop festival, it was sad that last Wednesday night neighbours of Woodhead Park had to alert the fire service. Some remaining hay bales used for seating at the festival had been set alight by youths, damaging the pitch.
