Whitehouse: switch to Halifax just felt right

in a while.”

But the 21-year-old is confident he can recapture his best form.

“I know I can score goals,” he added. “I got forward more in my youth days but over the last couple of years people maybe saw me more as a holding player and didn’t give me the chance to get forward.

“When I started at Sheffield United and went to York they wanted me to get forward.

“But when I went to Notts County I had a few games on the right, although I got a couple of assists as an attacking midfielder.

“I probably lost my mojo but all being well I can get it back now.”

The Worksop-born midfielder went to Sheffield United aged 14 as part of their youth system and captained them in the youth cup final against Manchester United in 2011.

“We had a good team,” Whitehouse recalls. “Harry Maguire, who now plays for Hull, was in defence.

“George Long was in goal who is now at Motherwell.

“Jordan Slew was in attack who went to Blackburn.

“They had Ravel Morrison, the Keane brothers, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba.

“He was awesome - I’ve never run so much in my life.

“It was their strongest team. Technically and physically they were at a different level.

“But it was a really good experience.”

After a nomadic couple of years that have seen him play just 34 games for five different clubs, Whitehouse is keen to establish himself as a firstteam regular with Town.

“It’s time for me to get some stability and try to kick on,” he added.

“I need to get games under my belt, especially at my age, I need to start playing more regularly and concentrate on enjoying my football.”

And Whitehouse believes Halifax should be aiming high ahead of the new campaign.

“Even though it’s part-time the chances are still quite high that we can go up,” he added.

“In the last couple of seasons they’ve been in and around it.

“They just missed out towards the end of last season but they were always there or thereabouts.

“They just needed that bit of extra quality.

“But one of the reasons I joined was because they’re a big club at this level and they’re ambitious to get to the next level.”
