It is hoped that the annual presentati­on of the Elland-Riorges Shield will reinforce the strong bond that has existed for many years between the Elland-Riorges Associatio­n and Brooksbank School. In the Spring of 1979, the first pupil exchanges took place between Elland and Riorges, France, when students from Brooksbank School, led by Thomas Wood, visited Riorges. A return visit followed in the autumn of that year, and these were the first of the pupil exchanges that went on for many years, later evolving into the adult exchanges that continue to the present day.

The Associatio­n still holds it’s bimonthly meetings at the school and the first general meeting of 2020 and New Year Party were held there earlier this week.

The Elland-Riorges Associatio­n celebrated it’s 40th Anniversar­y in July last year and the Brooksbank School orchestra provided music for the Celebratio­n Dinner under it’s Music Director Jamie Cooper. In return the Associatio­n made a donation to the school’s Music Department, which was also

Inner Wheel Club Of Brighouse

The Inner Wheel Club of Brighouse held its first meeting of the year at the home of Valerie Smith. President Susan Sutcliffe welcomed all to the meeting and thanked Valerie for hosting it and providing afternoon tea.

She also thanked those involved with the Santa Sleigh collection where over £3,300 had been raised for local charities and the Poppy Appeal collection from schools where over £20,00 had been raised. President Susan reminded everyone about the forthcomin­g Book Club today, Thursday, January 16, the walk around Shibden on January 20 and the Bridge Drive on March 2.
