Addy joined Maurice Bamford as assistant coach in March 1978 and helped to transform Fax over two seasons, gaining promotion to the then First Division at the end of the 1979-80 season.

Addy was suffering from dementia and was recently admitted to hospital where he passed away on Friday night.

He was also a former player, coach and president of Dewsbury Rams, who said in a statement: “Jack met his partner, Pat, outside of rugby but he soon made sure she caught the bug and they were a familiar sight together at the games, as well as being regularly mentioned over the tannoy as club sponsors.

“Jack also loved his cricket, playing to a high standard in a competition then known as the Yorkshire Council.

“He also enjoyed golf, but it is for what he did for rugby, and in particular Dewsbury Rams RLFC, that he will be remembered for.

“Jack will be sadly missed and our condolences go to Pat, and to all of his friends and to his family. He will be dearly missed.

“A befitting tribute to Jack will be arranged once more normal times return to all of our lives.”

FORMER HALIFAX prop Luke Ambler has revealed he has held tentative talks about a possible return to playing for the club, according to the Rugby Leaguer & League Express.

The Ireland international retired in 2017, aged 27, to focus on his business interests, including the mental health group Andy’s Man Club.

Speaking during the recent Halifax SOS fundraising event, Ambler said: “I’ve been asked a few times, which people won’t know, and I’ve thought about it, especially during lockdown.

“Playing for Halifax will always exceed anything I ever did, because I can’t put into words what the club and the people mean to me.

“We’ll see what happens.”
