Museums and galleries not exhibiting yet
MUSEUMS AND art galleries across Calderdale will stay shut for a little longer despite the Government’s go-ahead for these venues to re-open.
Education chiefs at Halifax’s national children’s museum Eureka, have said the tourist spot will not re-open until the team are ‘confident’ it has ‘effective measures in place to deliver a great day out, within this new context of social distancing’.
Calderdale Council-run venues across Calderdale, including Bankfield Museum, Shibden Hall, and Brighouse Art Gallery, are also set to stay shut until further notice.
Chief Executive of Eureka, Leigh-Anne Stradeski said: “We will not reopen until we’re confident we have effective measures in place, within this new context of social distancing.
“We are therefore not planning to reopen until early August.
“We’re just not ready to reopen in July and we wouldn’t be doing right by our visitors, or our team if we rushed to open our doors too soon.”
The council has also reiterated it will not be re-opening its public buildings just yet.
Venues such as Shibden Hall, Bankfield Museum, Heptonstall Museum, and Smith Art Gallery, in Brighouse, will remain shut after closing on March 20.
A spokeswoman from the council said: “The council is reviewing the implications of recent Government announcements and will advise of any changes to our services as appropriate.
“This will all be undertaken in the context of the ongoing risks to public health relating to COVID-19.
“We will announce any further changes through our communication channels.
“It’s a very fluid situation and we’re keeping our website updated so it’s worth keeping an eye on that for individual service updates. There’ a list of services in the ‘Disruptions to council services’ section, which gives a summary of current situations.”
