Royal date for school head Liz
THE HEADTEACHER of Holy Trinity Primary School says she is “utterly delighted” to be receiving an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours
Liz Whetham is being given the award for services to education, and has been at Holy Trinity in Swires Road, Halifax, since 2007, first as deputy headteacher and then as headteacher.
Since becoming a Local Leader of Education (LLE) for Teamworks Teaching School Alliance Liz, has been responsible for the designation of Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) and LLEs and has supported other schools, led professional learning opportunities, supporting teaching and learning development.
She is the Pupil Premium Review Coordinator for West Yorkshire and Teaching School
Council West Yorkshire subregional lead.
She has made a significant contribution to the development of education policy around workload reduction, and has been working to ensure schools provide the best education throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
Liz, who lives in Brighouse, said: “I am utterly delighted but feel that it is an honour to be shared with every child, and every colleague I have worked with in my professional life.
“Each and every one of them has inspired me in some way over the years. Our motto at Holy Trinity is ‘Lighting the Way to a Brighter Future’ and as a school community we are determined to improve outcomes for children in every way.
“The adage of ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ has been truly borne out in the last 15 months and it has been a privilege through roles I hold beyond Holy Trinity, to serve children across different local authorities and regions, through commissions from the DfE and Teaching School Council,” she added.
“To be honoured for something which is my passion is the icing on the cake of the honour of being entrusted with the future of children.”
Chair of Governors Daniel McDermott said: “Liz excels as a school leader, with a clear commitment to the improvement and elevation of education at our school and through the work she continues to do across the region. Liz’s approach to continuity, inclusivity, and the wellbeing of all involved has been exemplary.”
