Trio kicks off week of entertainment at Chapel

-

Classical music from the Vienna Mozart Trio kicks off a week of entertainment at the Square Chapel, Halifax, on Friday March 31. Halifax Philharmonic Club presents the concert featuring Irina (piano), Daniel (violin) and Diethard (cello) Auner.

The musicians consider it as their vocation to convey music as a spontaneous and original experience.

As a result, they have made a wide audience familiar with all epochs and styles and all the possibilities of musical expression, ranging from the great Viennese classics – with Mozart as one of the earliest composers of the musical genre of the piano trio – to the present day.

The programme:

Mozart – Piano Trio in G minor K 469

Mozart – Piano Trio in C major K 548

Mendelssohn – Piano Trio no.= 2 in C minor op 66

Mark Chadwick, of the Levellers, is at the venue on Friday March 31 at 7.30pm.

One of the UK’s most successful songwriters, Mark has co-written 20 chart singles and six top 40 albums as part of the Levellers, the band he has fronted for more than 25 years.

Still going strong the Levellers are festival favourites and have cemented their cherished status with headline performances at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, Cambridge Folk Festival, Bestival and Boomtown and many European and UK events and in 2003 they successfully created their own annual Beautiful Days Festival which takes place in August at Escot Park in Devon.

During this time Mark has released two solo albums All the Pieces and Moment. His upfront and personal solo performance will see him play a mixture of material from these albums and Levellers classics.

The curtain goes up on theatrical performance A Perfect Likeness on Thursday April 6 at 7.30pm.

Reclusive writer and photographer Charles Dodgson – also known as Lewis Carroll – invites celebrity author Charles Dickens to his Oxford home to pose for a portrait.

Dickens is so intrigued by the whimsical Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland that he accepts. What ensues is a baring of two creative souls, the one private and fastidious, the other boisterous and irreverent.

As Dodgson struggles to capture a ‘perfect likeness’ of Dickens, novelist Dickens craftily pries into Dodgson’s personal life to get a handle on one of the most curious men he has ever met.

The result is a hilarious and revealing conversation between two quirky, fascinating, and completely different men.

A Perfect Likeness by Daniel Rover Singer receives its UK Premiere by Conn Artists following on from their hit tours of Mary Rose and Silas Marner.

There is more music from China Crisis who play the Square Chapel on Friday April 7 at 8pm.

A combination of truly engaging music, a good bit of Scouse humour, and the clear kinship the band have with their fans, any China Crisis show is one you leave happier for having been part of. Their live performances are truly must-see.

Tickets for all shows are available on 0343 208 6016.
