Harriers’ Alex registers club record in Leeds

Halifax Harriers’ Alex Franklin clocked a new club record in the Even Splits 5k, at the Brownlee Cycle Track, in Leeds, last week

Franklin finished second in a time of 15:38, just ahead of clubmate Josh Hall-Brown in fourth place with 15:41.

Also representi­ng Harriers were Liam Parkin, in 17:12, Ned Hughes, who clocked a personal best of 17:18, and Tom Needham, who ran 18:32.

On Sunday, Will Carver finished 124th in the tough Edale Skyline Fell Race, with a time of 4:12:06. The race is held on a 21-mile unmarked course, with 4,500 feet of climb, that covers high and exposed terrain.

Hazel Berrett and Andrea Ackroyd took part in the Heptonstal­l Fell Race, which takes in steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland.

Berrett and Ackroyd finished the 15.4 mile course, with 3,170 feet of ascent, together in 3 hours 13 minutes.

The pair primarily treated the event as a training run for their upcoming marathons and Berrett claimed second place in her age group.

On the roads, Jenny St Romaine finished the challengin­g Sheffield Half Marathon in 2:15:29.

A contingent of 18 Stainland

Lions ran the Wilmslow Half Marathon, which is a counter in this year’s club championsh­ip.

Gavin Foster led the Lions home in 129th, beating last year's time by 50 seconds, while Gary Barnes (1:47:47), Beverley Day (2:16:57), and Claire Haigh (2:05:34) all ran personal bests.

Sue Cash was the solo Lion at this year’s Windmill 6, an undulating road race around the windmills on the top of Spicer Hill.

The race is part of the South Huddersfie­ld Trail and Road Series, and Cash ran a time of 54:59 to clinch second in her F55 age category.

Jim Harris tackled the 21-mile Edale Skyline race, with 4,505 feet of ascent, on Sunday and clocked 4:24:22.
