Senior England debut is latest success for Amelia

-

A senior England debut will undoubtedly give teenage water polo starlet Amelia Brooksbank a huge boost ahead of a busy summer and autumn schedule of international events.

The Brighouse Sixth Form College student was selected to make her senior debut for England in the Home Nations tournament in Dublin, where the young squad, with an average age of just over 17, finished runners-up to the experienced host nation.

That amazing experience will prove invaluable when Amelia hooks-up with the Great Britain U17s squad, who will take part in a final international training camp in Barcelona later this month ahead of the European Championships in Manisa, Turkey, from July 27.

It has been another successful year for the talented youngster, who has excelled both in and out of the pool.

Amelia enrolled on the Diploma in Sporting Excellence in water polo, completing workshops, team building activities as well as working with other aquatic athletes and mentors who will help guide and support her on her journey to becoming a star in the sport.

She represented English Schools in a tournament in

Hungary last year and also played in the British Water Polo League (BWPL) play-offs where her City of Manchester team qualified for promotion into Division 2.

Amelia was also in action for the North East in the inter-regionals last February when she celebrated her birthday by helping her side to the title.

And success with the City of Manchester club continued in the U19s National Age Groups Championships where they retained their title.

Amelia and her Great Britain U17s team mates, who have spent the last two years in the GB Talent Programme, are seeking support and sponsorship ahead of the European Championships in Turkey next month.

Water polo is largely selffunded and the girls’ families bear the majority of the financial burden. The team have embarked on several fund-raising activities to ensure that all members of the squad are able to travel and compete in the championships.
