Under-10s hockey stars end the year on top form
Halifax Hockey Club’s Under10s boys and girls were in action at Slazengers Sports Club and Ben Rhydding Hockey Club.
The boys put up a good show in their last games of 2023. They lost to the hosts 2-1 in a game that could have gone either way. Henry Bennett scoring.
ThesecondgamesawHalifax destroy a young Bradford team 7-0 with a hat-trick for Harry Chandler, a first goal for Isaac Birch and one each for Max Greenwood and Elijah Ross, also an own goal.
Another close game followed with Fax again unlucky to lose 2-1, Elijah Ross getting the goal. The fourth game was a convincing win against Leeds3-0withgoalsfromMax, Henry and Harry.
Jove Long deserves a special mention as he has taken up the mantle of team keeper and has already shown some potential.HehasreplacedJaxonSparkeswhoisnowbecoming a very competent outfield playerandstoodoutinthelast two games as a centre-back.
In the final game Fax beat Leeds Adel 3-2 with Harry on fire with another hat-trick. PlayerofthedaygoestoHenry Bennett who was outstanding throughout, showing tenacity and skill in creating several chances for his team-mates.
Well done to the team and plentytoworkonfortheirnext set of games in January.
The Under-10 girls were decimated by unavailability but still put up a great show at BenRhyddingwiththreewins, one defeat and a draw.
The returning Jessie Nettleship hit seven goals.
WinsagainstthetwoLeeds Adel teams, 5-0 and 6-0, were backed up with a 4-0 win against Wakefield. The only dropped points were against thetwohometeams,losing2-0 and drawing 0-0.
Edie Greenwood scored two goals and Chloe Watson also got on the scoresheet and for girls who are U8s, they showedamuchimprovedlevel of performance.
Leiyla Hoyland also got on the scoresheet and was very dominant in the heart of the Fax defence. Kitty Berry
scored two and her strong runningcreatedloadsofproblems for the opposition. Alice Birnie, playing in her first matches, showed great technique and confidence and was rewarded with a fine goal.
Well done to the players, coach Lydia Presley and the parent/taxis who were very supportive of these youngsters.
