Halifax Harriers’ brave duo Will Carver and Tom Paget took on the fearsome winter edition of the Montane Spine Sprint race last Saturday.

The physically and psychologically demanding nonstop, 46-mile race runs along the Pennine Way from Edale in the Peak District to Hebden Bridge. Both runners, however, relished the challenge and finished well inside the 18-hour limit.

Carver, who was competing in the event for the third time, made full use of his past experience to finish fourth overall in 10:01:07; smashing his previous best time by almost two hours.

Paget was making his debut at the event and completed the course in an impressive 12:38:21 to claim 27th place.

A trio of Harriers made the trip to Leeds on Sunday morning to compete in the highly popular Temple Newsam 10, a mixed terrain race around the Temple Newsam Estate.

Jane Hobson led the runners home, clocking 1:39:22. Andrea Ackroyd was hot on her heels in 1:39:58 and Jenny St Romaine finished in 1:57:17.

Three Harriers participated in the Stanbury Splash near Haworth on Sunday, the latest, and penultimate, race in the club's Fell League.

This 6.7 mile race, takes in nearly 1,200 feet of ascent in total, and includes a number of water crossings as well as plenty of mud. Lee Cattermole took the maximum 10 points. James O'Rourke and

Maksymilian Stytsun also wore the club colours.

Steve and Sarah Sladdin took on the trail half marathon in the grounds of Harewood House near Leeds on Saturday morning. Steve finished in 18th place in 1:42:54. Sarah completed the course in 2:24:26.

A contingent of 47 Stainland Lions set off from Heath Rugby Club on Sunday for the Club’s Winter Handicap.

The race is the first counter in this year’s Club Championship, and many of the runners were keen to get valuable points on board.

Roz Sykes was this year’s winner, finishing within five seconds of her estimated time. Jan King was 40 seconds out, followed by David Farrar who was 1:41 from his estimated time.

The fastest man on the day was Gav Mulholland, who clocked 29:20, followed by Gav Foster (31:02) and Phil Moyles (34:24). The first woman home was Helen Armitage (39:36), followed by Heather Moffat (41:22) and Michelle Rogerson (42:15).
