A packed crowd enjoyed Halifax Boxing Club’s second show of the season, sponsored by Yorkshire Timber.

Local boxing fans came out in big numbers for the sold-out show, in which young fighters from the club produced excellent performances, despite some of the decisions not going their way.

Halifax Boxing Club’s head coach Mick Rowe said: “The matches were difficult for the Halifax lads, with weight and experience on the away fighters’ advantage.

“But the boys did amazingly well and everyone enjoyed the spectacle.”

Among the highlights of the night was the contest involving Josh Casey, who dominated his three rounds with C Hunter, from the Karmond Centre, Bradford, only to suffer defeat. The unanimous decision certainly came as surprise to the crowd and the Karmond head coach.

Halifax’s Josh Collins boxed Hebden Bridge ABC rival Riley Cochran and Collins kept his opponent on the back foot for long periods of the fight.

The Halifax fighter enjoyed the better of the third round but the judges’ decision went against him as Cochran was given the verdict.

There was a terrific bout involving Archie Wakefield and K Collins, from the Sanctus Club, in Brighouse, in one of several fights between the clubs. Cohen Mason beat Sanctus Club’s T Swinhoe and Halifax’s Jack Ferrand maintained his unbeaten record with victory over Sanctus opponent T Legend.

In the junior fight of the night, Caden Jones had a terrific battle with H Edge, from Jimmy Egan’s Boxing Academy, in Manchester, with the Halifax boxer winning every round in a thriller.

Mikey Rowe extended his unbeaten record with a split decision verdict over Roche

ABC’s Y Khan in a 76kg contest. The last fight of the night saw Jack O’Brian in action for Halifax in a senior bout but he was on the wrong end of the judges’ decision.

Mick Rowe said: “Some of the decisions were very puzzling but it's all experience for these young people. Their grace in defeat makes all of us at the club really proud.”

The trophies we're kindly sponsored by Cutting Edge Carpets. The next show on April 26 is the annual charity show for Overgate Hospice. Anyone interested in sponsoring the event can call Mick on 07870 266002.
