The strict time limits set at the speedy Cheshire Elite 10k failed to put off Stainland Lions’ Eddie Martin.

The event is one of the fastest routes in the UK and due to limitations on road closures, the race can only accommodate women capable of running sub-44 minutes and men who can run sub-38 minute times. However, Martin rose to the challenge and clocked 36:54.

Aileen Baldwin, James Penson and Daniel Stafford completed the 25k, category BL, Heptonstall fell race in the upper Calder Valley, in which runners tackled grassy slopes, stretches of bog, thick heather and dense woodland. Stafford finished in 3:06:48, Penson clocked 3:08:43 and Baldwin ran 3:39:56.

Trish Hallowell recorded a time of 11:59:19 in her first ultra race, the Manchester to Liverpool Ultra, a unique 50-mile race following the Trans-Pennine Trail, the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey from Manchester to Liverpool.

The Salford 10k attracted a field of more than 600 runners and Eddie Martin led the Lions’ charge in 42nd place with a time of 35:16. Phil Tucker followed in 130th place with a time of 39:28.
