Excellent results for local clubs in Leeds Running Festival events

Stainland Lions and Halifax Harriers were among the clubs represente­d at the Leeds Running Festival events last week.

Nine Halifax Harriers travelled to Leeds, with eight competing in the 5k event and chasing points in the club’s Road Race Championsh­ips.

Stephen Rainbow took second place overall in 19:43 with James O’Rourke close behind in third (20:00). Steve Fitz-Costa also finished in the top ten, taking sixth in 23:05.

All three were first in their age group with Sharon Cousen also winning her age group (F50) in 26:41. Indeed, all eight Harriers finished in the first three in their respective age categories.

Other Harriers: Nigel Jamieson (25:35), Deborah Kirkbride (31:12), Chris Kirkbride (31:12) and Steve Denniss (31:46).

Clare Fountain completed the 10k race in 1:17:10.

Amjid Khan was the sole Stainland Lions runner in the festival’s half marathon, in Roundhay Park, finishing with a time of 1:55:26.

The final race in the Bunny Runs series was a counter in the Lions’ Fell Running

Championsh­ips.

Leon Seven led the way in 21:09, followed by Paul Patrick 24:35, Helen Hudson 25:32, Martin O’Brien 26:12 and Aileen Baldwin 26:23.

In this year’s series there were age category wins for both Paul Patrick (1st Mv60) and Aileen Baldwin (1st LV70), with Martin O’Brien claiming fifth in the MV60 group.

Four Lions took on the Brighouse 10k, with Zoe Russell clocking 54:00, followed by Simone Zoledzieje­wski (1:05:88), Chris Tetlow (1:15:04) and Cheryl Hill (1:15:05).
