Halifax fighters make club’s last show of season one to remember

The hosts celebrated many victories as Halifax Boxing Club staged their final show of the season last week.

The crowd were treated to a packed card of action in which the home club had a string of new young boxers taking to the ring for the first time.

Among the highlights was 14 year-old Josh Casey winning his first Yorkshire title thanks to an excellent victory over Laisterdyk­e’s Joe Hall in their battle for the 48kg belt.

Meetan, from Swinton ABC in the first round while Josh Collins also produced a dominant display to win every round in a victory over a strong opponent from Ingles gym, Liam Hannah.

Halifax’s Carson Nazir made a big impact in his first fight, beating Jenson Bertie, from Batesons ABC, in Leeds, courtesy of a great performanc­e that earned him the junior fighter of the night.

Romepiti Nilavongse also won his first fight for Halifax as he claimed the adult fighter of the night accolade.

RUNNING: Four Stainland Lions headed over to Lancashire to compete in the Blackpool Half Marathon, which follows a flat and fast one-lap course along the seaside promenade.

Paul Corns crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 1:38:50, knocking 29 seconds off his previous best as he finished third MV55.

Gail Schofield ran a personal best 1:51:42, taking two minutes, four seconds off her previous best and finishing third FV50. Dawn Medlock and Beverley Day crossed the line in 2:22:24.
