Bru-ing up a new type of pakora
Fizzy favourite on the menu thanks to Shah’s Irn will
It’s naan-stop excitement at a Hamilton takeaway famous for their own version of Buckfast korma – after they cooked up a new dish with a Scottish twist.
The House of Shah, in the town’s Quarry Street, have been asking customers to tikka chance on their latest creation – Irn Bru chicken pakora.
And delighted regulars have been dhansak on the ceiling after trying out the meal.
Joe Shah, who runs the Quarry Street shop, says he came up with the idea after having a “bit of banter” with customers to see what dishes they would like to try.
He explained: “We are always coming up with new ideas and like to try them out.
“My dad, Cal, helped to create our Buckfast korma some years ago – it was a great success and we still have it on the menu.
“So we thought we would combine Scotland’s other national drink and add it to our pakora and see what it tasted like.
“Many of our customers order the two so we thought we would try to combine both of them. Our chef has been trying out the recipe, and we think we have cracked it.”
Naz Shah, who has been a head chef with many top Indian restaurants across Glasgow, has been tweaking the recipe.
He added: “I think we have got the recipe just right now and I hope our customers might like to try it out.
“It does not have a distinctive Irn Bru flavour, but there is definitely an after taste of the drink.”
House of Shah have received 14 awards, including ones from Just Eat and the Fast Food Guide.
