Accies to host Auld Enemy

“It’s bad enough trying to negotiate Quarry Street without being accosted by charity collectors or gas and electricit­y nuisances, without paying for the shopping experience.

“Hamilton as a shopping centre is dying and the responsibi­lity lies squarely with South Lanarkshir­e Council.

“No amount of wittering on about ‘changing consumer habits’ or the ‘growth of online shopping’ fools shoppers or shop keepers.

“Enough is enough. An online petition has been set up to seek the abolition of the parking charges in the Keith Street car park.

“The main reason I decided to only highlight Keith Street is that I thought there would be more chance of a positive response from South Lanarkshir­e Council rather than if I included the whole of Hamilton.”

This week South Lanarkshir­e Council stood by their decision with regards to car parking charges.

South Lanarkshir­e Council’s head of roads and transporta­tion, Gordon Mackay, said: “The council’s parking policy is to provide a range of parking opportunit­ies Hamilton Accies Football Club are set to host a deaf charity football match between the ‘Auld Enemy’.

Deaf Network Cultural Centre (DNCC) and Scottish Deaf Football Associatio­n (SFFA) are hosting Scotland v England at the New Douglas Park stadium on Saturday, June 11, from 12pm to 4.30pm.

The event includes a surprise celebrity guest, bouncy castle, beat the goalie, arts and crafts, the community gardens which have crazy golf and a sand park, five-a-side football, face painting, a bar, burgers, raffle plus lots more.

All money raised on the day will be shared between DNCC, Hamilton Accies FC and two Scottish players – Philip-john Dolan and Jordan Kerr –who are playing for the Great Britain Deaf Men’s team at the 2016 Deaf World Cup in Italy. Tickets are priced £5 with children under 16 free. All welcome.
