Kind-hearted kids aid three super charities
Their £5k donation
Pupils of St Patrick’s Primary School and Nursery Class in Strathaven gathered a staggering £5050 for charities from their Lenten fundraising.
Head teacher Iain Mcguire paid special praise to the pupil council for their superb organisational skills and to the senior pupils for their commitment and dedication throughout the six-week period.
He said: “Their thoughtfulness for children and families less fortunate than themselves was clearly evident by the ways in which they unstintingly gave up their own time at intervals and lunch breaks, organised their stalls and donated prizes from their own pocket money.
“They are special young people and we are very proud of them.”
In 2014, St Patrick’s were awarded the prestigious status of house patrons of Ronald Mcdonald House – the first school in Scotland to achieve this since they opened in 1996.
Helen Craig, fundraising manager for Ronald Mcdonald House, was delighted to accept the cheque and said: “Since 2005 we have received a truly wonderful £9000 from various fundraising events held by the school, and most recently their Lenten appeal.
“We have regularly visited the school to let the pupils hear how their donations are directly helping sick children feel better quicker because they always have their families with them in hospital.
“On behalf of all the families who benefit from St Patrick’s Primary’s on-going support, thank you, we are incredibly grateful.”
At a ceremony in the school, last week, cheques were presented to Ronald Mcdonald House, £2588; ward 3a, The Royal Hospital for Sick Children Glasgow, £1461; and Saint Vincent de Paul, Strathaven Conference, £1000. Included within the final total was the sum of £346 raised by the nursery.
