Car enthusiast­s can motor along

College campus will host a new event

New College Lanarkshir­e will open its doors to car-lovers from all over Scotland for the first time this Sunday, May 29.

The Motherwell campus will play host to Tartan Tarmac’s Breakfast event – which lets car and motor enthusiast­s come together and browse the range of vehicles on show and discuss the latest issues in the industry.

It will also show off the facilities available including state-of-the-art teaching suites, heavy goods vehicles, light vehicles, motorcycle workshops, bespoke spray booths and refinishin­g paint materials.

Andy Murray, curriculum leader in automotive at the college, said: “With modern facilities including a stateof-the-art automotive department, the college was a clear choice for the event to take place.

“The event will also give the college the chance to showcase its range of courses on offer in engineerin­g and automotive, which range from motorcycle maintenanc­e to body repair.

“It is both refreshing and exciting for New College Lanarkshir­e automotive section to be involved in such a prestigiou­s and informativ­e event.

“We hope that all participan­ts realise how the facilities and range of courses available within the college can have a positive impact on the motor vehicle industry, employees and enthusiast­s alike.”

Andrew Marshall, director of Tartan Tarmac, said: “It’s an exciting time for Tartan Tarmac moving to New College Lanarkshir­e’s Motherwell campus, as the facilities on offer are excellent and ideal for our breakfast meets – plenty of modern space, close to the motorways and with a fantastic automotive department that we look forward to showing off.

“Everyone is welcome to the breakfast meets, regardless of what you drive, so I hope that this modern and spacious facility will attract lots of new and old faces.”

This Sunday will be the first of many events that are planned at the Motherwell campus.

Get along to New College Lanarkshir­e, Enterprise Way, Motherwell, between 9.30am and noon.

It is free to attend,and upcoming events are planned to take place the last Sunday of every month.

Meanwhile, music students from New College Lanarkshir­e are hosting an industry night at Stereo in Glasgow on Friday, June 2.

The Renfield Lane event is to launch the college’s new record label – Don’t Steel Mine Records – and will feature a question and answer session with guests including Chemikal Undergroun­d and The Girobabies.

They will be joined by representa­tives from the technology side of the music business to discuss their experience­s and work within the industry.

It is open to members of the public and entry is free.

Doors will open at 7pm with the Q&A session commencing at 8pm.
