Stephen’s delight at giving support to Kyle

-

A Motherwell singer-songwriter this week spoke about his delight at being asked to be the support act for The View’s Kyle Falconer in his home town.

Stephen Higgins performed as part of Kyle’s last -minute ‘small venue acoustic tour’ which was held on Saturday, May 21, at the Electric Bar in Motherwell.

The gig was a huge success, selling over 115 tickets.

Stephen is a guitarist for newly-formed band Caulder and was invited along by fellow Motherwell band The Banter Thiefs, to play in the supporting slot.

And he was delighted to be able to support such a big name. Stephen said: “I only found out about the gig about a week ago. Other members in my band couldn’t make it, so I went along on my own and played a couple of covers as well as our own songs.

“There was a great buzz about the full night, everybody enjoyed themselves. The Banter Thiefs played a class set as well.”

The La Fontaines drummer, Jamie Keenan, also played as a supporting act before Kyle took to the stage around 10.30pm.

Stephen said that the crowd went wild when Kyle made his entrance.

He said: “When Kyle arrived, the full place seemed to erupt with folk chanting his name. The full pub went wild for over an hour.

“I got to meet Kyle and he was a sound guy. The night was brilliant, with a great turn out.”

Caulder – who are named after the river Calder but with different spelling – are all looking forward to releasing their new single ‘Bitter Taste of Disappointment’ on Soundcloud on Friday, June 17.
