Traffic was brought to a standstill in Hamilton on Tuesday night as emergency services responded to reports of a man on a car park roof.
Roads in the surrounding area were closed as the man sat perched on the roof ledge of the multi-storey car park on Duke Street.
Hamilton traffic was brought to a standstill on Tuesday night as town centre roads were shut when a man was reported on the roof of Duke Street’s multi-storey car park.
Police received several calls around 4.30pm concerned with the safety of a man who was sitting on the roof ledge of the busy car park.
Officers responded to the incident and closed off the roads for around three hours for “public safety”.
Inspector Derek Hamilton at Hamilton Police said: “We received several calls at around 4.30pm last night (Tuesday, January 17) of a 32-year-old male sitting on the ledge of the roof of Duke Street multi-storey car park. The road was closed for three hours for public safety.
“The man was persuaded to come down and was uninjured and was taken to Wishaw General Hospital.”
Hundreds of commuters heading to Hamilton during rush hour were delayed in their journeys home.
Congestion in and around the town centre was at its peak at around 6pm as traffic was diverted away from the main roundabout near to Asda Hamilton.
One commuter who was stuck in the traffic, Pamela Martin, said: “I was heading over to Hamilton from Motherwell a journey which should really only take about 20 minutes but I was stuck for over an hour.
“We didn’t know what had happened but thought it must be serious.”
