Dedicated 200 into the spotlight
Youngsters lift gold, silver and bronze prizes
Around 200 young people were honoured recently at a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award ceremony in Hamilton’s Town House.
They were presented with either a Bronze, Silver or Gold award for their efforts and dedication in completing the programme.
Councillor Davie Mclachlan, South Lanarkshire Council’s spokesperson for youth, said: “I’d like to congratulate each and every young person who has received an award tonight. These certificates are the culmination of many months of hard work and many hours spent learning new skills, taking part in physical activity and volunteering in their local community.
“In South Lanarkshire, we have an excellent track record with young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award and hopefully we will build on this success year on year. The programme really does impact positively on young people’s lives and gives them valuable life skills for the future.”
From the Hamilton area, there were youngsters from the Hamilton Universal Connections youth group, Hamilton Grammar, Hamilton Information Project for Youth and the Duke of Edinburgh Open Group.
Presenting this set of awards were Councillors Jackie Burns and Catherine Mcclymont.
From Clydesdale, Carluke Universal Connections were represented. A total of 202 awards were completed within the South Lanarkshire Council area this year – 161 Bronze, 34 Silver and seven Gold.
