Kayla faced the chop in aid of wig charity
Cash also donated
A Whitehill youngster is sporting a completely new look after having her hair chopped off for charity.
Kayla Downie (8) had 13 inches cut off her locks in aid of the Little Princess Trust.
The kind-hearted Beckford Primary School pupil also asked for sponsorship donations, and will be handing over £120 to the charity, which makes wigs for children suffering hair loss.
Her long hair was cropped into a bob by Catherine Russell at Harpers and Queens in Whitehill, free of charge.
The pleated hair will now be sent to the Little Princess Trust to be transformed into wigs for youngsters who have experienced hair loss through illness.
Kayla’s proud Gran, Anne Clelland, said: “Kayla had 13 inches cut off – it was away down to her bum beforehand!
“The donation came about after she watched something about a little girl who had cancer, and Kayla was really upset by it.
“She came to us and said she wanted to have her hair cut, so wigs could be made for children like the little girl.”
She added: “Harpers and Queens is her usual hairdressers, and they kindly cut and styled Kayla’s hair for free.
“She absolutely loves it, and won’t let us put it up in a ponytail any more.
“She’s getting ‘star of the week at school’ and we are so pleased and so proud of her.”
The Trust requires donations of hair with a minimum length of seven inches.
Donations are then sent to a manufacturer in China, to be converted into wigs suitable for girls and boys who need them.
It can take five to seven donations of hair to complete a single wig.
