Raging Hamilton boss Martin Canning tore a strip off his side and told them the goals they’re conceding aren’t acceptable.

As a defender Canning knows sometimes teams concede goals that they simply cannot stop, but he says five out of the eight they’ve conceded in back-to-back 4-0 defeats at Hearts and Rangers were entirely avoidable.

Canning is very much aware of the direction in which his side is heading unless they stamp it out, and he says that has to happen now, ahead of a crucial month that will save or destroy their season.

Saturday’s latest debacle at Ibrox saw Emerson Hyndman and Clint Hill put Rangers into a 2-0 half-time lead, before Martyn Waghorn added a penalty and Lee Wallace wrapped up the scoring.

Canning said: “To lose four at Tynecastle and four at Ibrox was disappointing; we shouldn’t be doing that.

“When you look at the manner of the goals; it’s three direct free kicks at Tynecastle, it’s a penalty, a direct free kick and an indirect free kick at Ibrox – so that’s four free kicks and a penalty for five of the goals, which is really frustrating.

“If you take into account the previous game against Rangers it’s four corners and a penalty, and one where we passed it straight to them.

“The goals we’re conceding aren’t good enough – at any level. It needs to be stopped, and it needs to be fixed.”

Canning added: “After last week, having lost 4-0 against Hearts at Tynecastle, if we’re playing against one of the teams round
