A 45-year-old man has died while working at a building site in High Blantyre.

Police and ambulances were called yesterday (Wednesday) morning to the Avant Homes site on Hamilton Road, following a report that a man had been seriously injured.

One resident, who lives near to the housebuilder’s site, told the Advertiser that there was a large presence from the emergency services.

He said: “There were lots of police cars and ambulances in attendance.

“I am not quite sure what had happened, but I also noticed the air ambulance being out too.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “At around 9.45am on Wednesday, April 19, police and emergency services responded to reports of a 45-year-old man having been seriously injured while working at a building site close to Shott Farm on Hamilton Road.

“Paramedics attended and pronounced the man dead at the scene. “The man is still to be formally identified. “A post mortem will be conducted to

establish the exact cause of death, which is not being treated as suspicious at this time.

“The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

An Avant Homes spokesperson said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm a man died in an incident at our construction site in High Blantyre today (April 19).
