- Court reporter

Two Uddingston men are accused of causing a disturbance in a village pub and attacking other men there.

Jonathan Mullen, of First Avenue, and Jack Murphy, of Hornbeam Road, both aged 20, denied charges of assaulting the men at the Horsehoe Bar in Main Street on February 12 this year.

Mullen is said to have punched Christopher Jolly on the head to his injury – while Murphy is said to have repeatedly punched Gareth Tallamy on the head, causing him to fall to the ground to his injury and to have pushed Calum Mcgarrity on the body and to have punched him on the head to his injury.

The duo also pleaded not guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at the Horseshoe Bar by shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence.

They are further accused of acting with others unknown to the prosecutor by assaulting David Marrable at Armstrong Court by repeatedly punching him on the head and body to his injury on March 5 this year.

Mullen and Murphy also denied a charge of assaulting Rhys Marrable at Armstrong Crescent on the same date with others unknown to the prosecutor by placing him in a headlock and repeatedly punching him on the head to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last Thursday, Sheriff Marie Smart set Mullen’s trial for August 4 with an intermediate diet of July 6 and granted him bail meantime.

Murphy, however, was absent and a warrant for his arrest was granted.
