Hunt for Lexi continues as drone search fails

-

The family of a missing dog are continuing their search after failing to track her down using a drone.

Lexi the greyhound has been missing for 19 days now and the family are increasingly concerned for her safety.

Owner Kevin Williamson said:“we flew the drone over an area we know she had been in and could possibly still be, but it highlighted how difficult it is to see a dark-coloured dog in amongst trees and bushes, many of which are the same colour.

“Bjorn Aaen from Drone Scotland did a great job in covering the area but it is a very small needle in a very large haystack and we don’t even know if she was still in the specific area covered.

“Thermal imaging is one possible way to go but it is very expensive and you would need a definite sighting to maximise your resource. If we could get a loan of the police helicopter that would be great. The other issue is that drone flying is heavily regulated with the safety of the public paramount, so you can’t just fly where you like.”

The family have continued to receive support from the public in the search for Lexi, but there have been so many different sightings of Lexi that it is making narrowing down areas to search very difficult.

Kevin said:“since we last spoke to the Advertiser, there have been some possible sightings in Bellshill that we are following up and trying to establish if it was her or not.

“One thing we’ve found that people just imagine every brown coloured dog that is running about is Lexi so every sighting is now treated with extreme caution.

“If we could get one genuine 100 per cent sighting either by photograph or CCTV we would be able to base ourselves in that area and work on widening the awareness in that area as we only have so much time and resources to give.

“We’ll never stop looking for Lexi but we need some genuine sightings to help us find her.”

The family are from Drumsagard but the dog has been spotted in various areas in and around Hamilton. If anyone spots Lexi please do not try and capture her, keep your distance and call Kevin on 07730 566763.

There is a £500 reward for Lexi’s safe return and any updates and sightings can be found on a dedicated Facebook page.
