Roadworks set to last for four days
But essential work will be done overnight
Roads bosses said four nights of roadworks at the M74’s Junction 5 (Raith) and Junction 6 (Hamilton) were set to begin last night (Wednesday, April 19).
Transport Scotland are carrying out works to the overhead gantry signs on the M74.
The works are expected to take place from 8pm until 6am each night, and will finish on Sunday, April 23.
Roads bosses say the works will result in an overnight coned contraflow, with all traffic running on the southbound carriageway between Junction 5 and Junction 6.
The onslip at Junction 5 southbound will be closed as well as the offslip at Junction 6 southbound being closed.
And the Junction 6 Motherwell on slip northbound will also be closed.
A number of diversions will be put in place: The Raith Roundabout M74 northbound, Junction 3 and return M74 southbound; M74 south, M74 junction 7, and return M74 northbound; and M74 southbound and follow diversion 2.
A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said: “These works relate to the installation of essential overhead gantries signs and are programmed to take place overnight to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.
“While we do not expect any significant delays, we continue to communicate live traffic management via our usual channels including the Traffic Scotland web and twitter feeds, Traffic Scotland radio and our roadside variable message signs.
“We would like to thank road users who travel through the works on a daily basis for their continued patience, and would ask that they bear with us as we approach the final stages of construction.”
