Fundraiser for brave Tyler (5)

- Staff reporter

The family of a little Ferniegair boy who suffers from a number of infirmities are getting ready for a special fundraiser later this month.

Tyler Mcculloch, who was born three-and-a-half months premature, is regularly sick when he eats and drinks.

Mum Angelina Gourley and dad David Mcculloch hope to raise £5000 for a special chair to make five-yearold Tyler more comfortable.

The fundraiser at Larkhall’s Raploch Bowling Club takes place on Friday April 28, from 7pm to 1pm and will feature a DJ, raffle and buffet.

Angelina told the Advertiser: “Despite all the odds, he’s still here. We’re very grateful for that. We want to make life as easy for Tyler as best we can.”

When Tyler was born he weighed only 2lbs 5oz, and contracted a rare stomach bug when he was only a few days old.

As a result he had part of his stomach and bowel removed. The £3995 chair will have to be ordered from the States and will help the five-year-old’s posture and hopefully stop the reflux when he eats and drinks.

Tyler suffered from meningitis of the brain when he was 12 weeks old and was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy aged three. He has very little muscle function in his lower or upper body, meaning he cannot talk or walk.

The youngster attends Wishaw General to see an eye specialist once every three to six months and an orthopaedic consultant every six months.

Tyler has also been diagnosed with autism. As he does not have a full stomach or bowel, he has problems eating and all his food has to be broken down to make it more easily digestible.

Tyler lives in Ferniegair with Angelina and David and his three brothers 19-year-old Kyle, 18-yearold Nathan, Dylan (11) and sister Reanna (13).

Tickets for the Raploch Bowling Club fundraiser are £12, available at the door on the night.
