- Kirsten Mcstay

The company who produce Buckfast have donated £20,000 to help families with cancer in Lanarkshire.

J Chandler & Co donated the cash to Macmillan Cancer Support to help fund its vital work supporting people with cancer and their families throughout the county.

The firm have in total donated £115,000 to the charity since 2012.

Kamie Kilty, fundraising manager for Macmillan, said: “On behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support I’d like to say thank you to J Chandler & Co (Buckfast) Ltd for making a generous donation of £20,000 and for their continued support over the years.”

The money will be used to provide much-needed financial support for Lanarkshire cancer patients.

It will help to pay for travel to and from hospital for treatment, heating bills, clothing, washing machines and other household items.

Last year Macmillan provided financial grants to over 1800 people in Lanarkshire, totalling more than £300,000.

Stewart Wilson, sales manager for J Chandler & Co (Buckfast) Ltd, presented the cheque to Kamie Kilty and the Lanarkshire Macmillan Community Nurse Team.

Mr Wilson said: “We are pleased to be supporting Macmillan again. The work the team undertakes is vital within our communities, without continued financial donations these services would not be possible.

“Part of our donation will be used to help fund local community grants for people who need it most.”
