Pavilion named in tribute to much loved official

Junior football side Blantyre Vics have paid tribute to a long serving official who passed away last month.

Board members were joined by the family of Blantyre man Tommy Corrigan last weekend at the KG Stadium, Forrest Street, Blantyre, as the Vics’ unveiled the ‘Tommy Corrigan Pavilion’.

The 65-year-old passed away March after suffering a stroke.

And family members were humbled to be invited along to see the new pavilion plaque in Tommy’s memory – which houses the club changing rooms and office.

Vics spokesman Andy Mcdaid, who served 35 years as General Secretary at the club, said: “Tommy was instrumental in setting up this building many years ago.

“He worked hard behind the scenes for the club, organising a variety of sportsmens’ events to raise funds – and the profile – of Blantyre Vics.

“Club officials thought this gesture might be the most appropriate way to recognise his services over the years.”

Meanwhile, the Vics’ face Shettleston this Saturday, April 22, at their KG Stadium in a Mcbookie.com Super First Division match. Kick off is at 2pm. They then face Shotts Bon Accord, again on home turf, on Monday, April in 24 at 6.45pm. Admission to both games is £6/£3 for concessions.

Youngsters who play for Blantyre Vics youth section are admitted free, when wearing their club kit and attending with one full paying adult.

Elsewhere, the club are hosting a bank holiday weekend comedy day. Live at the Vics will include two of the funniest comedians around – Susie Mccabe and John Scott – with MC Pat Rolink.

The event takes place on Sunday, April 30 at Blantyre Vics Social Club, Forrest Street, from 2pm to 6pm, doors open at 1.30pm. Tickets are £10, in aid of club funds, and include pie and peas.
