The Stroke Association and Well Pharmacy hosted an event for Larkhall residents, offering free blood pressure tests and advice to help beat stroke – the nation’s fourth biggest killer.

Well, on Union Street in Larkhall, held a ‘Knowyour Blood Pressure’event in store on Tuesday, April 11, offering the community free blood pressure checks, expert advice and consultancy, as well as the chance to participate in a raffle to raise money for Well’s charity partner, The Stroke Association.

With‘know Your Blood Pressure Day’ (April 22) fast approaching, Well and The Stroke Association, are now encouraging the wider Larkhall community to continue to visit the store for advice on how to lower or avoid high blood pressure - the single biggest controllable risk factor for stroke.

John Nuttall, CEO at Well, said:“the campaign is focused on raising awareness of the link between high blood pressure and stroke.

“At Well, we are supporting the Stroke Association by offering free blood pressure checks and consultations in all our stores.

“Stroke strikes every five minutes in the UK, but with our specialist service, we can have a positive impact on reducing this risk within local communities.”

Alexis Wieroniey, Deputy Director for Policy and Influencing at the Stroke Association, said:“over half of all strokes are caused by high blood pressure and it is estimated that over five million people across the UK are unaware that they have the condition.

“High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and it’s much more common than people think.

“That’s why we’re urging as many Larkhall residents as possible to take a moment and have theirs checked at Well.

“A blood pressure check is quick and painless, and it could save your life.”

In its bid to support The Stroke Association, Well has pledged to raise £250,000 for the charity over the next 12 months.
