Hamilton Accies boss Gary Doctor admitted he was “disappointed and frustrated” with Sunday’s 6-0 defeat by Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 leaders Hibernian.

Chelsea Cornet put the Edinburgh side ahead with a deflected effort and Hibs were 4-0 up by the interval, adding two more goals in the second half as they stayed two points ahead of Glasgow City.

Hibs’ other goals came from Abi Harrison, Lucy Graham, Amy Gallacher and Siobhan Hunter.

The defeat left Accies at the foot of the table after three straight defeats, and Doctor hopes they can raise themselves for Sunday’s match at home to second-placed Glasgow City.

However, he said games like these are what his side worked so hard for last season and believes they can adapt.

Doctor said: “It was always going to be very hard against Hibs, who played really well, and it would be unfair to say the first goal changed the game, but we need to force that type of luck to go our way.

“As much as there were good things in our performance, we’ve made errors at key moments that were punished and that’s cost us dearly.

“That has left us disappointed and frustrated.”

Doctor added: “I was pleased with how the players hung in the second half and continued to fight for each other.

“We have to lift ourselves for Glasgow City next week, but these opponents are why we put so much in last year, and why we will continue to enjoy the challenge ahead of us.”

Striker Mhairi Lyle says it’s important for Accies to learn lessons from their humbling by Hibs ahead of Sunday’s clash with Glasgow City.

He said: “Glasgow City will be a similar tempo of game, we’ll be up against a similar calibre of player.

“We’ll just look to take things from this game, learn from this game and work on those things we can work on.”

Lyle added: “It was a really tough game against Hibs, but that’s what we expected, really.

“I think we did really well, in terms of our shape, and they just moved the ball really well, and that’s where they opened us up a few times.

“Again, we expected that, and tried to counter as much as possible.

“There were a few disappointing goals to lose and at a few of their goals they were just very clinical, so overall I think it was a tough game, but we did well in patches.

“I think we need to be more clinical in front of goal when we get our chances, to take our rewards when we get them.”
