Skipper’s warning after Accies bag three huge points

Hamilton bagged their first away win of the season and in some style as they downed Dundee 2-0 to move out of the relegation zone.

However, captain Michael Devlin – who scored the crucial second goal – warned his troops against getting carried away by the win.

The importance of Saturday’s three points can’t be overstated. This was a must-win for Accies if they hoped to secure their Scottish Premiershi­p status – while dropping Dundee right in it.

They were well worth it, too, with goals in either half, from an Alex D’acol penalty and Devlin’s header from sub Danny Redmond’s corner with six minutes left.

He said: “We had no option and had to win that game. The second goal put the game to bed at an important time, which was crucial for us.

“It was a massive win. However, the manager is 100 per cent spot-on in what he’s saying, in the sense that we’ve put ourselves into a decent position with the win on Saturday – but there are still five games left and if we lose them all we’ll probably get relegated.

“We need to keep doing our job, take every game as it comes and make sure we’re organised to win each game. If we do that then I think we’ll be OK.

“We played really well in the first half, passed the ball as well as we have in a long time, but we didn’t start the second half particular­ly well.
