Radio show at church

- Leona Greenan

Blantyre Old Parish Church will welcome Radio Four’s ‘Any Questions’ with host Jonathan Dimbleby this Friday, April 28.

The live broadcast will take place in the evening and the audience will be able to question a panel about the week’s major talking points.

Beginning just after 8pm, the panel will feature Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale MSP; Minister for Social Security in the Scottish Government, Jeane Freeman MSP; and the editor of The Spectator magazine, Fraser Nelson.

Audience members will be asked to submit their questions on arrival and, if picked, will be invited to read them out live on air.

Questions chosen regularly touch on the major political, economic, social and moral issues of the day.

Reverend Sarah Ross, of Blantyre Old Parish, is relishing the event.

She said: “As part of our 450th anniversary celebrations, we are excited at hosting such an important and relevant event.

“We are grateful to Robert Freer for the suggestion, and to BBC Radio 4 for choosing our building to host this event.

“Given the political landscape of Brexit, independence and now the General Election we are anticipating a great political debate.

“All the political parties were sent tickets and we hope to see a number of our politicians represented in the audience.

“And this is the only Scotland date prior to the General Election.

“We know that tickets are being sent far and wide, including south of the border, and we anticipate a great turnout.”

Tickets are still available and can be reserved for picking up on the night by phoning 07957 743 691. There is no charge for this event.

Doors open at 6.30pm, and the audience must be seated by 7.15pm.

The warm-up begins at 7.30pm and it is broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 from 8.02pm.
