A Hamilton ice cream maker has scooped yet another top award.

Equi’s, who are based in the town’s Peacock Cross, won with their raspberry sorbet in the UK heat of the European Gelato Championship in London at the weekend.

The ice cream parlour was up against strong competition including a top gelato maker from the Gordon Ramsay Group and the acclaimed Snowflake Gelato.

Owner David Equi said: “We’ve had such a great time competing in London and I’m so proud of our team. Our gelato chefs worked tirelessly to make our delicious Scottish raspberry sorbet and was supported by Jennifer Mackenzie, who acted as server.

“We were getting amazing feedback for our flavour all weekend but we couldn’t believe when it was our name they announced as the winner. We’ve enjoyed working with some of the most talented and creative gelato makers in the UK, and we can’t wait for the final in Florence.”

Equi’s sorbet was made using fresh Scottish raspberries with a dash of lemon. A unique production method gives the sorbet the super-smooth texture Equi’s Ice Cream is known for. The top-secret recipe was created by David and produced to perfection by gelato chef Kaelin Halcrow.

Equi’s will take on finalists from around Europe at the Gelato Festival European final, which takes place at Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence in September.
