- Stefanie Mccourt

Five people were rushed to hospital following a road crash in Stonehouse last week.

Two men, a woman and two young boys were taken to hospital after the incident involving an Audi A3 and an Audi A4 on the A71 Canderside Toll around 8.25pm on Thursday (July 13).

Police say the black A3 was travelling west when it appears to have lost control, crossed to the eastbound carriageway and collided head-on with the black A4.

A Police Scotland spokesman explained: “Around 8.25pm on Thursday, July 13, a black Audi A3 car was travelling west on the A71 Stonehouse Road near to Canderside Toll when the car apparently went out of control causing it to cross the eastbound lane of the carriageway and collide head-on with a black coloured Audi A4 car.

“The 36 year-old driver of the Audi A3 was taken by air ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he is currently being treated for multiple injuries.

“Hospital staff describe his condition as serious. His 31-yearold passenger was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries which hospital staff say are not life threatening.

“The 42-year-old driver of the Audi A4 and her two male passengers – aged eight and five years – were all taken to Wishaw General Hospital.

“The driver and the five-yearold boy were released after treatment whilst the eight-yearold boy remains in hospital with a leg injury. Hospital staff say his injury is not life threatening.”

Any witnesses to the collision are urged to call Inspector Graham Conner at the Motherwell traffic department via 101, quoting incident number 3874 of 13 July 2017.
