Autoteller cash thief gets supervision

- Court reporter

A Stonehouse man has been placed on supervision and tagged for a number of crimes including stealing a total of £71.85 from autotellers.

Andrew Bunch, of Newfield Road, had used a bank card in the name of Linda Kemmet at the Nisa supermarket in Strathaven’s Green Street on April 22 last year.

The 25-year-old also admitted a charge of stealing £31.85 at the Esso petrol station on April 22 in Stonehouse’s Strathaven Road on the same date.

His not guilty pleas to charges of stealing a bank card from a house in Strathaven on April 16, 2016, and stealing £30 from an ATM at the Co-op in Stonehouse’s King Street were accepted by the Crown.

In a separate complaint, Bunch admitted being found in suspicious circumstances within a vehicle transport trailer in Larkhall’s Caledonian Road on November 23, 2016, while on bail on a separate matter.

Co-accused 23-yearold Barry Weir, of Ashland Avenue, Hamilton, denied this charge which was accepted by the Crown.

However, Weir admitted a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in Larkhall’s Union Street by uttering homophobic remarks on November 23, 2016. At an earlier hearing, Weir was given a community payback order requiring him to undergo 12 months’ supervision.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court last week, Sheriff Thomas Millar imposed a community payback order on Bunch on both complaints, to run concurrently, which required him to undergo 12 months’ supervision.

He was also placed on a restriction of liberty order for three months confining him to his home between the hours of 7pm and 7am seven days a week.
