Final term was busy

St Bride’s pull out all the stops

- Leona Greenan

It was a busy last term of the session for the pupils and staff at St Bride’s Primary in Bothwell, with celebrations galore taking place.

First up, the children were tasked with dreaming big and looking to the future with their World of Work Week which had speakers from the world of sport, business and the medical professions.

There was a series of timetabled workshops from parents and businesses, ranging from events management to engineering, as well as a very popular careers fair which welcomed everyone from scientists to surveyors, bankers to bakers and everything in between.

The senior pupils also had opportunities to experience work in the NHS, Tesco, BBC, Bothwell Co-op , Dance Inc and John Wilson Photographers.

And the highlight of the week for St Bride’s was their live streaming of a press conference with badminton ace Kirsty Gilmour – a former pupil at the school.

Next up, the pupils proved that even one small step can make a huge difference in the lives of others.

For Stephen Kerr (a P3 father) spoke to the children at assembly and asked for support in raising awareness of his Nepal Trek in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice in October 2017.

The children didn’t just offer their support but indeed volunteered to ‘walk with him’ and decided to use their daily miles to add up to match his journey.

When school returns after the break, they will record their miles until the end of October to compare their distances.

Last but not least, St Bride’s said a fond farewell to dining room supervisor Ann Winning.

Mrs Winning celebrated her retirement with friends, colleagues and the staff and children – and it was more than fitting that her final goodbye be toasted with tea and home-baking.

Staff and children cheered as they wished her a long, happy and healthy retirement. The school presented Mrs Winning with a beautiful crystal vase engraved with the school badge and a bouquet to fill it.

Head teacher Denise Pacitti said: “Now that Mrs Winning has the time to sit back and relax, we hope her gift brings back happy memories of her time in St Bride’s.

“We wish her every happiness in the years to come.

“Finally, a huge thank you to all of our parents and partners who give us such tremendous support in all we do.”
