It’s a healthy outlook for Whitehill

- Stefanie Mccourt

Fridays in Whitehill may never be the same again, following the launch of a new Active Friday programme.

Whitehill Neighbourhood Centre is providing the base for the weekly events being run as part of South Lanarkshire’s Seniors Together Forward@ Fifty group’s Good Health Project.

The recent launch of the Active Fridays “feel good day” saw a packed programme of exciting activities including sports, cultural activities and a market style information street all aimed at people in retirement or coming up for retirement.

Fitness MOTS were on offer for anyone interested in checking their physical fitness levels and the experts on hand were also able to give free advice on how to make improvements. This event began phase two of the forward@fifty group’s Good Health Project which is funded by South Lanarkshire Health and Care Partnership.

Gerry Campbell, general manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, said: “Active days are a well-established and popular part of the work delivered by Seniors Together and Forward@fifty and the launch of this weekly event in Whitehill will be a welcome addition to that programme.

“The age group this is aimed at is a very broad spectrum of individuals both retired and approaching retirement, and Active Fridays will deliver a programme that is about fun, fitness, friendship and more and is designed for as wide a range of people as possible.”

Active Friday will now be available each week in Whitehill Neighbourhood Centre from 9.30 till 11.30am.

A wide programme of activities will be available and all will be free until March 2018.
